Scale Overview
The Recovery Measurement Tool – RMT was developed by Ruth O. Ralph (2004). It is designed to measure Mental Health Recovery. The scale is intended for use with Adults recovering from mental health disorders.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 91 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Not at all like me, 2 = Not very much like me, 3 = Somewhat like me, 4 = Quite a bit like me, 5 = Very much like me, 9 = Not applicable.
The scale includes 21 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 91 to 455. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Recovery Orientation: 91 – 212
- Moderate Recovery Orientation: 213 – 333
- High Recovery Orientation: 334 – 455
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Not specified.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
