Scale Overview
The Recovery Enhancing Environment Scale – REE was developed by Priscilla Ridgway & Press (2004). It is designed to measure Recovery-Enhancing Environment. The scale is intended for use with Adults receiving mental health services.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 40 items organized into 10 factors/subscales: Personal Identity, Meaning in Life, Hope, Symptom Management, Health and Wellness, Rights, Relationships, Basic Needs, Empowerment, New Challenges.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 4-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 4 = Strongly Agree).
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 4 to 16. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Support / Importance: 4 – 8
- Moderate Support / Importance: 9 – 12
- High Support / Importance: 13 – 16

Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Not specified.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
