Scale Overview
The Recording of Job-Related Self-Concepts of Prospective Teachers (ERBSE-L) was developed by Jan Retelsdorf, Bauer, Gebauer, Kauper, & Möller (2014). It is designed to measure Job-related self-concept. The scale is intended for use with Prospective teachers / teacher education students.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 20 items organized into 6 factors/subscales: Subject Self-Concept, Education Self-Concept, Diagnostics Self-Concept, Innovation Self-Concept, Media Self-Concept, Counselling Self-Concept.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Does not apply at all, 2 = Does not really apply, 3 = Somewhat applies, 4 = Completely applies.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 1 to 4. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Self-Concept: 1 – 2
- Moderate Self-Concept: 2 – 3
- High Self-Concept: 3 – 4
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha = .71 to .88.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
