Scale Overview
The Reciprocal Support Scale – RSS was developed by T. Silver, B. Bricker, Z. Pesta, & D. Pugh (2002). It is designed to measure Reciprocal social support. The scale is intended for use with Mental health consumers in recovery partnerships.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 14 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Almost Never, 2 = Rarely, 3 = Sometimes, 4 = Often, 5 = Almost Always.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 14 to 70. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Reciprocal Support: 14 – 32
- Moderate Reciprocal Support: 33 – 51
- High Reciprocal Support: 52 – 70
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
