Scale Overview
The Questionnaire of Cognitive Schema Activation in Sexual Context – QCSASC was developed by Pedro J. Nobre, José Pinto-Gouveia (2009). It is designed to measure Negative cognitive self-schemas in sexual contexts. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 28 items organized into 5 factors/subscales: Undesirability/Rejection, Incompetence, Self-Deprecation, Difference/Loneliness, Helpless/Betrayed.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Completely False, 2 = False, 3 = Sometimes True, Sometimes False, 4 = True, 5 = Completely True.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 22 to 110. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low activation of negative self-schemas: 22 – 44
- Moderate activation of negative self-schemas: 45 – 77
- High activation of negative self-schemas: 78 – 110
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha: .94 (Full scale), .59 to .91 (Subscales).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
