The Questionnaire for Beginning Teachers (QBT) was developed by A. J. Reiman & R. A. Edelfelt (1991). It is designed to measure Beginning teacher experiences and mentoring support. The scale is intended for use with Beginning teachers.

This instrument consists of 46 items organized into 7 factors/subscales: Mentor Support, School Environment, Professional Growth, General Experience, Colleague Interaction, Feedback & Evaluation, District Support.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Never or hardly ever, 2 = Sometimes, 3 = Frequently, 4 = Always or almost always.
The scale includes 5 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 46 to 184. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low perceived support and satisfaction: 46 – 91
- Moderate perceived support and satisfaction: 92 – 137
- High perceived support and satisfaction: 138 – 184

Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Not reported.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
