Scale Overview
The PTSD Checklist – Civilian Version adapted for Death Anxiety Resilience (PCL-C-DAR) was developed by Mark Hoelterhoff (2010). It is designed to measure Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Symptoms. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 17 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Intrusion, Avoidance, Numbing, Hyperarousal.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Not at all or only one time, 1 = Once in a while / Once a week or less, 2 = Half of the time / 2 to 4 times a week, 3 = Almost always / 5 or more times a week.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 51. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Severity: 0 – 17
- Moderate Severity: 18 – 34
- High Severity: 35 – 51
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Not specified.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
