The Positive Parenting Practices – Rochester Youth Development Study (PPP-RYDS) was developed by Thornberry, T. P., Lizotte, A. J., Krohn, M. D., Farnworth, M., & Jang, S. J. (1991). It is designed to measure Positive Parenting Practices. The scale is intended for use with Parents and adolescents.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Often, 2 = Sometimes, 3 = Seldom, 4 = Never.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 1 to 4. Interpretation guidelines:
- Mean score range (Note: Original scoring assigns Often=1 and Never=4, but states higher scores indicate greater frequency, suggesting reverse-scoring may be required for analysis): 1 – 4
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
