Scale Overview
The Physical Activity and Sport Anxiety Scale (PASAS) was developed by Norton, P. J., Hope, D. A., & Weeks, J. W. (2004). It is designed to measure Social anxiety in sports and exercise. The scale is intended for use with Adults and adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 16 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Not at all characteristic of me, 2 = Slightly characteristic of me, 3 = Moderately characteristic of me, 4 = Very characteristic of me, 5 = Extremely characteristic of me.
The scale includes 3 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 16 to 80. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Anxiety: 16 – 37
- Moderate Anxiety: 38 – 59
- High Anxiety: 60 – 80
