Scale Overview
The Personality Type Indicator – PTI was developed by Isabel Briggs Myers (1995). It is designed to measure Personality Type. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 70 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Extraversion vs. Introversion (E/I), Sensing vs. Intuition (S/N), Thinking vs. Feeling (T/F), Judging vs. Perceiving (J/P).

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: A = Option A, B = Option B.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 20. Interpretation guidelines:
- E/I Dimension Score (Higher scores indicate stronger preference for Option A / Extraversion): 0 – 10
- S/N Dimension Score (Higher scores indicate stronger preference for Option A / Sensing): 0 – 20
- T/F Dimension Score (Higher scores indicate stronger preference for Option A / Thinking): 0 – 20
- J/P Dimension Score (Higher scores indicate stronger preference for Option A / Judging): 0 – 20
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Varies by subscale (typically alpha 0.75 – 0.90).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
