Scale Overview
The Personal Resource Questionnaire 85 – Part 2 (PRQ85-Part 2) was developed by Patricia A. Brandt & Clarann Weinert (1981). It is designed to measure Social Support. The scale is intended for use with Adults and adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 25 items organized into 5 factors/subscales: Attachment, Social Integration, Reassurance of Worth, Reliable Alliance, Nurturance.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly Disagree, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Somewhat Disagree, 4 = Neutral, 5 = Somewhat Agree, 6 = Agree, 7 = Strongly Agree.
The scale includes 5 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 25 to 175. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Social Support: 25 – 75
- Moderate Social Support: 76 – 125
- High Social Support: 126 – 175
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of High internal consistency (typically Cronbach's alpha > 0.85).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
