Scale Overview
The Personal Growth Initiative Scale (PGIS) was developed by Christine Robitschek (1998). It is designed to measure Personal Growth Initiative. The scale is intended for use with Adults and adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 9 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Definitely disagree, 2 = Mostly disagree, 3 = Somewhat disagree, 4 = Somewhat agree, 5 = Mostly agree, 6 = Definitely agree.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 9 to 54. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Personal Growth Initiative: 9 – 27
- Moderate Personal Growth Initiative: 28 – 45
- High Personal Growth Initiative: 46 – 54
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha ranges from .78 to .90.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
