Scale Overview
The Personal Growth Initiative Scale–II (PGIS-II) was developed by Robitschek, C., Ashton, M. W., Spering, C. C., Geiger, N., Byers, D., Schotts, C., & Thoen, M. A. (2012). It is designed to measure Personal Growth Initiative. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 16 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Readiness for Change, Planfulness, Using Resources, Intentional Behavior.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Disagree Strongly, 1 = Disagree Somewhat, 2 = Disagree a Little, 3 = Agree a Little, 4 = Agree Somewhat, 5 = Agree Strongly.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 80. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Personal Growth Initiative: 0 – 26
- Moderate Personal Growth Initiative: 27 – 53
- High Personal Growth Initiative: 54 – 80
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.80 – 0.90.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
