The Person-Organization Fit Scale (P-O Fit Scale) was developed by Robert D. Bretz Jr. & Timothy A. Judge (1994). It is designed to measure Person-Organization Fit. The scale is intended for use with Employees / Working adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 15 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Not true at all, 2 = Slightly true, 3 = Moderately true, 4 = Very true, 5 = Definitely true.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 60. Interpretation guidelines:
- High Fit (Low discrepancy between preferences and organizational reality): 0 – 15
- Moderate Fit: 16 – 30
- Low Fit (High discrepancy between preferences and organizational reality): 31 – 60
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Assessed via confirmatory factor analysis (single-factor structure supported).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
