Scale Overview
The Perfectionistic Cognitions Inventory – PCI was developed by Flett, G. L., Hewitt, P. L., Blankstein, K. R., & Gray, L. (1998). It is designed to measure Perfectionistic cognitions. The scale is intended for use with Individuals aged 15 years and over.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 25 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Not At All, 1 = Sometimes, 2 = Moderately Often, 3 = Often, 4 = All of the time.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 100. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low to Average Perfectionistic Cognitions: 0 – 35
- Moderate Perfectionistic Cognitions: 36 – 60
- High / Clinically Significant Perfectionistic Cognitions: 61 – 100
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of High internal consistency.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
