Scale Overview
The Perfectionism Cognitions Inventory – PCI was developed by Gordon L. Flett, Paul L. Hewitt, K. R. Blankstein, & L. Gray (1998). It is designed to measure Perfectionistic Automatic Thoughts. The scale is intended for use with Adults and adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 25 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = not at all, 1 = sometimes, 2 = moderately often, 3 = often, 4 = all of the time.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 100. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low frequency of perfectionistic thoughts: 0 – 25
- Moderate frequency of perfectionistic thoughts: 26 – 50
- High frequency of perfectionistic thoughts: 51 – 75
- Very high frequency of perfectionistic thoughts: 76 – 100
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha typically ranges from .85 to .95.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
