Scale Overview
The Parenting Daily Hassles Scale – Early childhood services (PDH-ECS) was developed by Tomoko N. Arimura (2008). It is designed to measure Parenting daily hassles in early childhood services. The scale is intended for use with Parents of young children in early childhood services.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 22 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Never (0 times in last month), 1 = Rarely (1-3 times in last month), 2 = Sometimes (1-2 times per week), 3 = A lot (3-4 times per week), 4 = Constantly (5 times per week / every school day).
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 88. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Hassles: 0 – 22
- Moderate Hassles: 23 – 55
- High Hassles: 56 – 88
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 8 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
