Scale Overview
The Parental Tolerance Scale – PTS was developed by Richard J. Butler, C. R. Brewin, W. I. Forsythe (1986). It is designed to measure Parental tolerance for nocturnal enuresis. The scale is intended for use with Parents of children with nocturnal enuresis.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 16 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a dichotomous Yes/No format.
The scale includes 10 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 16. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Tolerance: 0 – 5
- Moderate Tolerance: 6 – 11
- High Tolerance: 12 – 16
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
