Scale Overview
The Parental Supervision Scale – Rochester Youth Development Study (RYDS) was developed by Bjerregaard B., Smith C.A. (1993). It is designed to measure Parental Supervision. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 4 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 4 = Often / Very important, 3 = Sometimes / Important, 2 = Seldom / Not very important, 1 = Never / Not at all important.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 4. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Parental Supervision: 1 – 2
- Moderate Parental Supervision: 2 – 3
- High Parental Supervision: 3 – 4
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
