Scale Overview
The Parental Involvement – Chicago Youth Development Study (Youth Report) was developed by Gorman-Smith, D., Tolan, P. H., Zelli, A., & Huesmann, L. R. (1996). It is designed to measure Parental Involvement and Monitoring. The scale is intended for use with Youth / Adolescents.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Don't know / Hardly ever, 2 = More than 1 month ago / Less than once a month / Sometimes, 3 = Within last month / At least once a month / Often, 4 = Within last week / At least once a week, 5 = Yesterday or today / Almost every day.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 3. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Parental Involvement: 1 – 1
- Moderate Parental Involvement: 1 – 2
- High Parental Involvement: 2 – 3
