Scale Overview
The Parental Attitudes Toward Use of Aggression was developed by Dodge, K. A., Pettit, G. S., & Bates, J. E. (1994). It is designed to measure Parental attitudes toward aggression. The scale is intended for use with Parents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 10 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Definitely disagree, 2 = 2, 3 = 3, 4 = Neutral, 5 = 5, 6 = 6, 7 = Definitely agree.
The scale includes 4 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 7. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low acceptance of aggression: 1 – 3
- Moderate acceptance of aggression: 3 – 5
- High acceptance of aggression: 5 – 7
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
