Scale Overview
The Parental Attitudes Toward Drug Use – Seattle Social Development Project was developed by Arthur M. W., Hawkins J. D., Pollard J. A., Catalano R. F., Baglioni A. J. (2002). It is designed to measure Parental disapproval of substance use. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 3 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Not wrong at all, 2 = A little bit wrong, 3 = Wrong, 4 = Very wrong.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 4. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low parental disapproval (High risk behavior): 1 – 2
- Moderate parental disapproval: 2 – 3
- High parental disapproval (Low risk behavior): 3 – 4
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
