Scale Overview
The Parent Involvement in School – Parent Version (PIS-P) was developed by Miller-Johnson, S., Sullivan, T. N., & Simon, T. R. (2004). It is designed to measure Parent Involvement in School. The scale is intended for use with Parents of school-aged children.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 18 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Parent Involvement with Child, Parent Involvement with Teacher/School, Teacher Involvement with Parent.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 (Items 1-7) = Never, 1 (Items 1-7) = Once a month, 2 (Items 1-7) = Once a week, 3 (Items 1-7) = Several times a week, 4 (Items 1-7) = Everyday, 0 (Items 8-18) = Never, 1 (Items 8-18) = Hardly ever, 2 (Items 8-18) = Sometimes, 3 (Items 8-18) = Often, 4 (Items 8-18) = Very often.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 72. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Involvement: 0 – 18
- Moderate-Low Involvement: 19 – 36
- Moderate-High Involvement: 37 – 54
- High Involvement: 55 – 72
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
