The Parent Happiness With Youth Scale – PHYS was developed by Donohue, B., Van Hasselt, V. B., Prizio, O., Warshal, S., & Shoenwald, D. (1996). It is designed to measure Parental satisfaction with youth behavior and relationship. The scale is intended for use with Parents of adolescents and youth.

This instrument consists of 13 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = 0% (Completely Unhappy), 10 = 10%, 20 = 20%, 30 = 30%, 40 = 40%, 50 = 50%, 60 = 60%, 70 = 70%, 80 = 80%, 90 = 90%, 100 = 100% (Completely Happy).
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 0 to 100. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Satisfaction: 0 – 49
- Moderate Satisfaction: 50 – 79
- High Satisfaction: 80 – 100
