Scale Overview
The Parent/Child Social Competencies—Conflict Behavior Questionnaire (CBQ) was developed by Eberly, Montemayor & Flannery (1993). It is designed to measure Parent-child conflict and social competence. The scale is intended for use with Parents of adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 20 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Positive Behaviors, Negative Behaviors.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a dichotomous True/False format.
The scale includes 6 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 20. Interpretation guidelines:
- No conflictual behaviors: 0 – 0
- Low conflict: 1 – 6
- Moderate conflict: 7 – 13
- High conflict: 14 – 20
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
