Scale Overview
The Overall Job Satisfaction Scale – OJS was developed by Taylor, J. C., & Bowers, D. G. (1974). It is designed to measure Job Satisfaction. The scale is intended for use with Employees / working adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 7 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Completely satisfied, 2 = Somewhat satisfied, 3 = Neutral, 4 = Somewhat unsatisfied, 5 = Completely unsatisfied.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 5. Interpretation guidelines:
- High Satisfaction: 1 – 2
- Moderate/Neutral Satisfaction: 2 – 3
- Low Satisfaction (Dissatisfaction): 3 – 5
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Alpha values ranged from .67 to .71.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
