Scale Overview
The Organizational Frustration Scale – OFS was developed by Paul E. Spector (1975). It is designed to measure Organizational Frustration. The scale is intended for use with Employees / Working adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 29 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: -3 = Disagree completely, -2 = Disagree pretty much, -1 = Disagree slightly, 1 = Agree slightly, 2 = Agree pretty much, 3 = Agree completely.
The scale includes 5 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from -87 to 87. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Frustration: -87 – -30
- Moderate Frustration: -29 – 29
- High Frustration: 30 – 87
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.88.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 8 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
