Scale Development & Technical Details
Scale Overview
The Organizational Culture Profile (OCP) was developed by Charles A. O’Reilly III, Jennifer Chatman, & David F. Caldwell (1991). It is designed to measure Person-Organization Fit. The scale is intended for use with Employees and organizations.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 54 items organized into 8 factors/subscales: Innovation, Stability, Respect for People, Outcome Orientation, Attention to Detail, Team Orientation, Aggressiveness, Other Values.
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Innovation | 5,6,7,8 | 4 |
| Stability | 3,4,9,11,37,54 | 6 |
| Respect for People | 18,19,20,21,25,38 | 6 |
| Outcome Orientation | 31,32,34,35,36,51 | 6 |
| Attention to Detail | 12,13,14 | 3 |
| Team Orientation | 15,16,41,43 | 4 |
| Aggressiveness | 26,53 | 2 |
| Other Values | 1,2,10,17,22,23,24,27,28,29,30,33,39,40,42,44,45,46,47,48,49,50,52 | 23 |
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Most undesirable, 2 = Highly undesirable, 3 = Very undesirable, 4 = Somewhat undesirable, 5 = Neutral, 6 = Somewhat desirable, 7 = Very desirable, 8 = Highly desirable, 9 = Most desirable.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from -100 to 100. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low/Negative Fit (r <= 0.00): -100 – 0
- Moderate Fit (r = 0.01 to 0.50): 1 – 50
- High Fit (r = 0.51 to 1.00): 51 – 100
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Spearman-Brown reliability ranged from .84 to .94.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
