Scale Overview
The Organizational Commitment Scale – OCS was developed by Danny L. Balfour & Barton Wechsler (1996). It is designed to measure Organizational Commitment. The scale is intended for use with Employees.

This instrument consists of 9 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Identification commitment, Affiliation commitment, Exchange commitment.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 7-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 7 = Strongly Agree).
The scale includes 3 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 9 to 63. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low commitment: 9 – 27
- Moderate commitment: 28 – 45
- High commitment: 46 – 63
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Alpha: .81 (affiliation), .72 (identification), .83 (exchange).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
