Scale Overview
The Organization-Based Self-Esteem Scale – OBSE was developed by Pierce, J. L., Gardner, D. G., Cummings, L. L., & Dunham, R. B. (1989). It is designed to measure Organization-Based Self-Esteem. The scale is intended for use with Employees.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 10 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 5-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 5 = Strongly Agree).
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 10 to 50. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Organization-Based Self-Esteem: 10 – 25
- Moderate Organization-Based Self-Esteem: 26 – 39
- High Organization-Based Self-Esteem: 40 – 50
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.86 – 0.96.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
