Scale Development & Technical Details
Scale Overview
The Omnibus Trust Scale – Omnibus T-Scale was developed by Wayne K. Hoy & Megan Tschannen-Moran (2003). It is designed to measure Faculty Trust in Schools. The scale is intended for use with School teachers and faculty.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 26 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Faculty Trust in the Principal, Faculty Trust in Colleagues, Faculty Trust in Clients.
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Faculty Trust in the Principal | 1,4,7,9,11,15,18,23 | 8 |
| Faculty Trust in Colleagues | 2,5,8,12,13,16,19,21 | 8 |
| Faculty Trust in Clients | 3,6,10,14,17,20,22,24,25,26 | 10 |
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly Disagree, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Somewhat Disagree, 4 = Somewhat Agree, 5 = Agree, 6 = Strongly Agree.
The scale includes 5 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 200 to 800. Interpretation guidelines:
- Very Low Trust (Standardized Score): 200 – 399
- Low Trust (Standardized Score): 400 – 489
- Average Trust (Standardized Score): 490 – 510
- High Trust (Standardized Score): 511 – 600
- Very High Trust (Standardized Score): 601 – 800
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of High reliability (typically alpha > .90 for subscales).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
