Scale Overview
The Nonphysical Aggression Scale (NPAS) was developed by R. Loeber, D.P. Farrington, M. Stouthamer-Loeber, & W.B. Van Kammen (1998). It is designed to measure Nonphysical aggression. The scale is intended for use with Youth (elementary, middle, and high school students).
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 16 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Not true, 1 = Sometimes true, 2 = Very true.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 16. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Nonphysical Aggression: 0 – 5
- Moderate Nonphysical Aggression: 6 – 11
- High Nonphysical Aggression: 12 – 16
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
