Scale Overview
The Neighborhood Integration Scale – Rochester Youth Development Study (NI-RYDS) was developed by Thornberry, Krohn, Lizotte, Smith & Tobin (2003). It is designed to measure Neighborhood Integration. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents and young adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 7 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = None / Never, 2 = A few / Some / Seldom, 3 = Sometimes, 4 = A lot / Often.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 4. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low neighborhood integration: 1 – 2
- Moderate neighborhood integration: 2 – 3
- High neighborhood integration: 3 – 4
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
