Scale Overview
The Neighborhood Disorganization – Rochester Youth Development Study (ND-RYDS) was developed by Thornberry, Krohn, Lizotte, Smith, & Tobin (2003). It is designed to measure Neighborhood disorganization. The scale is intended for use with Youth and adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 17 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Not a problem, 2 = Sort of a problem, 3 = A big problem.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 17 to 51. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Neighborhood Disorganization: 17 – 28
- Moderate Neighborhood Disorganization: 29 – 40
- High Neighborhood Disorganization: 41 – 51
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
