Scale Overview
The Neal and Seeman Powerlessness Scale was developed by Arthur G. Neal & Melvin Seeman (1962). It is designed to measure Powerlessness. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 7 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Statement A, 1 = Statement B.
The scale includes 5 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 7. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Powerlessness: 0 – 3
- High Powerlessness: 4 – 7
