Scale Overview
The Narcissistic Personality Inventory – NPI-16 was developed by Daniel R. Ames, Paul Rose, and Cameron P. Anderson (2006). It is designed to measure Narcissism. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 16 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: A = Option A, B = Option B.
The scale includes 8 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 16. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Narcissism: 0 – 4
- Average Narcissism: 5 – 8
- High Narcissism: 9 – 16
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
