Scale Overview
The Motives for Physical Activity Measure – Revised (MPAM-R) was developed by Richard M. Ryan, Christina M. Frederick, Darlene Lepes, Noel Rubio, Kennon M. Sheldon (1997). It is designed to measure Exercise Motivation. The scale is intended for use with Adults and adolescents participating in physical activity.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 30 items organized into 5 factors/subscales: Fitness, Appearance, Competence, Social, Enjoyment.

Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 1 to 7. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low motivation in this dimension: 1 – 2
- Moderate motivation in this dimension: 3 – 5
- High motivation in this dimension: 6 – 7
