Scale Overview
The Mood Swings Questionnaire – MSQ was developed by Gordon Parker, Dusan Hadzi-Pavlovic, Lucy Tully, Kathryn Fletcher (2006). It is designed to measure Bipolar Disorder Screening. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 27 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = No more than usual, 1 = Somewhat more than usual, 2 = Much more than usual.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 54. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low likelihood of bipolar disorder: 0 – 19
- High likelihood of bipolar disorder: 20 – 54
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
