Scale Overview
The Momentary Cannabis Craving Scale – MCCS was developed by Davis, C. N., Gex, K. S., Squeglia, L. M., Trull, T. J., McCarthy, D. M., Baker, N. L., Gray, K. M., McRae-Clark, A. L., & Tomko, R. L. (2025). It is designed to measure Momentary Cannabis Craving. The scale is intended for use with Emerging adults (aged 18-21) who use cannabis.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 6 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Purposefulness/General Craving, Negative Affect/Emotionality Craving.

Response Format

Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 6 to 42. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Craving: 6 – 18
- Moderate Craving: 19 – 30
- High Craving: 31 – 42
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 1 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
