Scale Overview
The Mentoring Function Scales – MFS was developed by Tepper, K., et al. (1996). It is designed to measure Mentoring functions. The scale is intended for use with Employees.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 16 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Psychosocial mentoring functions, Career-related mentoring functions.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Not at all, 2 = To a slight extent, 3 = To some extent, 4 = To a large extent, 5 = To a very large extent.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 8 to 40. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low mentoring support (per subscale): 8 – 16
- Moderate mentoring support (per subscale): 17 – 32
- High mentoring support (per subscale): 33 – 40
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
