Scale Overview
The Medical Outcomes Study Physical Functioning Measure – MOS PF-10 was developed by Anita L. Stewart, Ron D. Hays, John E. Ware (1988). It is designed to measure Physical Functioning. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 10 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Yes, limited a lot, 2 = Yes, limited a little, 3 = No, not limited at all.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 10 to 30. Interpretation guidelines:
- Severe physical limitation: 10 – 19
- Moderate physical limitation: 20 – 25
- Mild or no physical limitation: 26 – 30
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.90.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
