Scale Overview
The Measuring Ingratiatory Behaviors in Organizational Settings – MIBOS was developed by K. Kumar & M. Beyerlein (1991). It is designed to measure Ingratiatory behaviors in organizational settings. The scale is intended for use with Employees / Working adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 24 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Opinion Conformity, Other Enhancement, Favor Rendering, Self-Presentation.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Never do it, 2 = Seldom do it, 3 = Occasionally do it, 4 = Often do it, 5 = Almost always do it.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 24 to 120. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Ingratiation: 24 – 56
- Moderate Ingratiation: 57 – 88
- High Ingratiation: 89 – 120
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Alpha values: Opinion conformity (.56-.79), Other enhancement (.74-.84), Favor rendering (.72-.86), Self-presentation (.73-.77), Combined (.86-.93).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
