Scale Overview
The Maternal Resilience Scale – ERESMA was developed by Roque, M. P., Acle, G., & GarcÃa, M. (2009). It is designed to measure Maternal Resilience. The scale is intended for use with Mothers of children with special needs or difficulties.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 45 items organized into 6 factors/subscales: Self-determination, Hopelessness, Spiritual faith, Rejection of personal responsibility, Lack of support from the partner, Limited resources for meeting needs.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Never, 2 = Almost never, 3 = Sometimes, 4 = Frequently, 5 = Always.
The scale includes 31 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 45 to 225. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Resilience: 45 – 105
- Moderate Resilience: 106 – 165
- High Resilience: 166 – 225
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.92.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
