Scale Overview
The Major Experiences of Discrimination Scale (MEDS) was developed by David R. Williams et al. (2008). It is designed to measure Perceived Discrimination. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 9 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a dichotomous Yes/No format.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 9. Interpretation guidelines:
- No reported major discrimination experiences: 0 – 0
- Reported one or more major discrimination experiences: 1 – 9
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
