Scale Overview
The Locus of Control of Behaviour Scale – LCB was developed by A. R. Craig, J. A. Franklin, & G. Andrews (1984). It is designed to measure Locus of Control. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 17 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Strongly disagree, 1 = Generally disagree, 2 = Somewhat disagree, 3 = Somewhat agree, 4 = Generally agree, 5 = Strongly agree.
The scale includes 7 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 85. Interpretation guidelines:
- Internal Locus of Control: 0 – 28
- Intermediate Locus of Control: 29 – 56
- External Locus of Control: 57 – 85
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Alpha coefficients range from 0.79 to 0.86.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
