Scale Overview
The Life Satisfaction Index A – LSIA was developed by Bernice J. Neugarten, Robert J. Havighurst, Sheldon S. Tobin (1961). It is designed to measure Life Satisfaction. The scale is intended for use with Older adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 20 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 2 = Agree, 1 = ?, 0 = Disagree.
The scale includes 8 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 40. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Life Satisfaction: 0 – 15
- Moderate Life Satisfaction: 16 – 25
- High Life Satisfaction: 26 – 40
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
