Scale Overview
The Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Knowledge and Attitudes Scale – LGB-KAS was developed by Frank R. Dillon, Roger L. Worthington, Ann M. Becker-Schutte (2005). It is designed to measure LGB Knowledge and Attitudes. The scale is intended for use with Heterosexual adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 28 items organized into 5 factors/subscales: Hate, Knowledge, Civil Rights, Religious Conflict, Internalized Affirmativeness.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = 1 (Very Uncharacteristic of Me or My Views), 2 = 2, 3 = 3, 4 = 4, 5 = 5, 6 = 6 (Very Characteristic of Me or My Views).
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 1 to 6. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Endorsement / Knowledge: 1 – 2
- Moderate Endorsement / Knowledge: 3 – 4
- High Endorsement / Knowledge: 5 – 6
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha > .70.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
