Scale Overview
The Learning Self-Regulation Questionnaire – SRQ-L was developed by Geoffrey C. Williams, Edward L. Deci (1996). It is designed to measure Self-Regulation in Learning. The scale is intended for use with College and medical students.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 14 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Autonomous Regulation, Controlled Regulation.
| Factor / Subscale |
Items |
N |
| Autonomous Regulation |
1,3,6,9,11,13,14 |
7 |
| Controlled Regulation |
2,4,5,7,8,10,12 |
7 |
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = not at all true, 2 = 2, 3 = 3, 4 = somewhat true, 5 = 5, 6 = 6, 7 = very true.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 1 to 7. Interpretation guidelines:
- Subscale scores are calculated by averaging the responses to the items on that subscale. Higher scores indicate stronger endorsement of that regulation style.: 1 – 7
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Alpha values typically exceed 0.75 for both subscales.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
