Scale Overview
The Joshi-Pandey Problem Checklist (JP-PCL) was developed by M. C. Joshi and Jagadish Pandey (2005). It is designed to measure Adolescent adjustment and developmental problems. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents and students.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 154 items organized into 11 factors/subscales: Health and physical development (HPD), Finance, living conditions and employment (FLE), Social and recreational activities (SRA), Courtship – sex and marriage (CSM), Social – psychological relations (SPR), Personal – psychological relations (PPR), Moral and religion (MR), Home and family (HF), The future: vocational and educational (FVE), Adjustment to school work (ASW), Curriculum and teaching procedures (CTP).

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a dichotomous Yes/No format.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 154. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low problem level: 0 – 20
- Moderate problem level: 21 – 60
- High problem level: 61 – 154
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of High test-retest and split-half reliability reported in manual.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
