Scale Overview
The Job-Related Tension Index – JRTI was developed by Robert L. Kahn, Donald M. Wolfe, Robert P. Quinn, & J. Diedrick Snoek (1964). It is designed to measure Job-Related Tension. The scale is intended for use with Working adults / employees.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 15 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Doesn't apply, 1 = Never, 2 = Rarely, 3 = Sometimes, 4 = Rather often, 5 = Nearly all the time.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 15 to 75. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Tension: 15 – 35
- Moderate Tension: 36 – 55
- High Tension: 56 – 75
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha .80 to .89.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
